UK WHOIS lookup

Make a deliberate, single-domain lookup of the public registration details supplied by Nominet RDAP.

Look up one UK domain

This tool uses RDAP, the modern replacement for WHOIS. A missing record does not guarantee that a domain can be registered.

UK domain lookup

One complete registrable domain, without a URL, path or subdomain. Restricted namespaces have their own eligibility rules.

When you submit, your browser sends the domain and your IP address directly to Nominet. Results stay in this page; DomainSabre does not store your lookup history. Nominet RDAP terms.

Public UK registration information

Use this page to check one supported UK domain through Nominet's public Registration Data Access Protocol service, or RDAP. People often call this a WHOIS lookup; RDAP supplies structured registration data through the registry's modern service.

Enter the domain alone, without a website address, path or email address. The tool accepts supported ASCII UK registrations and explains an unsupported or invalid input. It does not silently turn a website URL into a different name or query several domains at once. Internationalised names are not supported by this embedded form.

Opening a prefilled link only fills the input. A lookup begins when you choose to submit it. It is not triggered by typing, loading a drop-list row or reaching a scheduled drop time. If the embedded lookup cannot reach the official service, use Nominet's own lookup client.

What the fields can tell you

When supplied in the public response, the result can show the domain, registration status, relevant registration or update dates, expiry information, registrar, nameservers and DNSSEC information. Fields can be missing, withheld or redacted. An omitted field is not evidence that the underlying fact does not exist.

What the fields can tell you — reference table
Field Useful interpretation Limit to keep in mind
Domain The exact registration returned Similar names and other suffixes are separate registrations
Status Registry status labels at the check time A status label alone does not explain every customer action or deadline
Dates Events such as registration, update or expiry, when provided Expiry is not a promised deletion or availability time
Registrar The registrar identified in the public response This is not necessarily the registrant, seller or website operator
Nameservers DNS delegation information supplied for the name Delegation does not establish website content, traffic or ownership of a business
DNSSEC Public information about DNS security signing It does not certify a website, seller or transaction

Use the displayed check time when recording evidence. Domain history checks explains how this current snapshot fits alongside incomplete archive evidence. The UK lifecycle guide provides context for expiry and deletion without calculating a drop date from a single field.

No record does not guarantee availability

A successful response with no matching record is different from an invalid input, a timeout, a network or browser-access failure, or a registry rate limit. The interface labels these outcomes separately. A failed request must not be interpreted as an unregistered domain.

Even a no-record response does not promise that a registration attempt will be accepted. Eligibility, reservation, timing and concurrent requests can matter. If you intend to register or acquire a name, use an appropriate provider and obtain confirmation of the actual outcome.

Do not repeatedly submit a name as a countdown to a drop. Nominet applies service limits and its terms restrict automated or high-volume use. If the service asks you to wait, respect the delay. A registration data lookup is not a drop-catching mechanism.

Keep a drop schedule separate from a lookup

The UK domain drop list shows entries from an accepted published source snapshot. This lookup asks a different question: what public registration details the registry returns for a deliberate request at that time.

A name appearing in both views does not make either source newer than its own timestamp. If a scheduled time has passed, neither a retained drop-list row nor an incomplete lookup establishes that the name is available, has been caught or has sold. Read UK domain drop catching and UK domain backorders before treating a possible drop as an acquisition plan.

How your lookup is handled

The submitted lookup goes directly from your browser to the approved Nominet RDAP endpoint. Nominet receives the requested domain and the connection information needed to answer, including your IP address. Its RDAP terms and applicable privacy terms govern that service.

DomainSabre does not proxy the registry request, retain a lookup-history database or store the returned response. This page displays a limited set of public domain fields; it does not display or harvest registrant contact details or publish the full response. Do not submit confidential information in the domain field. See our privacy notice for the distinction between a lookup and the information needed for an email reminder.

WHOIS and the scheduled registry changes

Nominet's .UK standardisation remains scheduled for 9 February 2027, subject to its formal effective-date provisions. The transition material includes changes to older data services, including WHOIS. The presence of this RDAP tool does not mean the scheduled registry transition has already happened.

Our UK data services guide distinguishes current access, scheduled arrangements and restricted services. The Nominet transition hub records the wider context and official references. A date passing on its own will not be treated as confirmation of a change in operation.
